What are 'CAPE aspects'?

CAPE is an acronym of four valuable principles medical practitioners in Australia must fulfill within the CPD each year.

CULTURALLY SAFE PRACTICE

Is defined by the MBA (2020, pp.10) as “the ongoing critical reflection of health practitioner knowledge, skills, attitudes, practising behaviours and power differentials in delivering safe, accessible and responsive healthcare free of racism”.

ADDRESSING HEALTH INEQUITIES

Ensures that every person is entitled to high-quality healthcare regardless of their gender, ethnicity, geographic location and socioeconomic status.

PROFESSIONALISM

Duties, qualities and values embedded in medical practitioners to address the health care needs of individuals and communities with a commitment to maintain clinical skills, knowledge and judgement to deliver best practice models of care.

ETHICAL PRACTICE

Underpinning of the principles of care.

Under the standard, doctors are required to engage in CAPE CPD activites aligned with the MBA's GOOD MEDICAL PRACTICE: A CODE OF CONDUCT FOR DOCTORS IN AUSTRALIA, 2020.

Subscribers must complete CPD activities addressing each of the aspects.

Tip: If a provider has not specifically outlined this aspect is available in the learning activity, you are still able to acknowledge this aspect in any learning you might have completed that you learned one of these aspects.

If you are a subscriber, you can tag these aspects yourself to any eligible learning activity. Check out the Quick Start Guide found on your CPD Tracker Dashboard.

Once attached to a relevant learning activity, you will see a green tick appear on your Dashboard.
