This Dual Diagnosis Training Intro video introduces the 2 day advanced training that explains Substance Abuse, (with Alcohol & Other Drugs), as well as Mental Health Issues. This training will equip general practitioners to be able to deliver brief & early interventions to patients struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues, as well as advanced psycho therapeutic skills.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Consider sociocultural factors affecting people with substance use and addiction in order to make appropriate community referrals 
  2. Reflect on personal biases regarding addictive behaviours and how this impacts clinical care
  3. Identify referral pathways for patients to engage with treatment service providers
  4. Assess a patient’s stage of change for referral into clinical pathways and treatment
  5. Verbalise a range of communication skills to interview and counsel patients and their families about substance use and addictive behaviours
  6. Consider sociocultural factors affecting people with substance use and addiction in order to make appropriate community referrals 
  7. Reflect on personal biases regarding addictive behaviours and how this impacts clinical care
  8. Implement strategies to prevent and minimise harm for those patients who are more vulnerable to addiction
  9. Articulate the impact Neurophysiology has on addiction
  10. Articulate the impact Neuroplasticity has on addiction
  11. Consider level of awareness of socio cultural factors affecting people with substance use and addiction in order to make appropriate community referrals.
