Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae causing emphysematous pyelonephritis: a life‐threatening pathogen within Australian communities

Description

Classical K. pneumoniae is an encapsulated Enterobacterales gram‐negative bacillus, and a common cause of community and health care associated urinary tract infections. Severe classical K. pneumoniae infection most commonly occurs in hosts with significant comorbidities or immunocompromise, and may involve the lungs, abdominal cavity, and urinary system.
