In this seminar, Associate Professor Stevens discusses the role of opioids in analgesia and the management of acute pain whilst providing excellent patient satisfaction, good functional outcomes, and ensuring community safety. 


Learning Outcomes

  1. Recognise the use of opioids in analgesia for acute pain
  2. Evaluate the research presented and the safety outcomes
  3. Implement some practical changes in the way opioids are administrated to patient(s) - the focus being on (a) pre-operative preparation, (b) prescribing, (c) monitoring, (d) written discharge information and (e) safety data measurement
  4. Adapt and use the resources in your own private anaesthetic practice.
