What are paediatric difficult airways? And are they really that different from adults - Dr Stefan Sabato

In this seminar, Dr Stefan Sabato focuses on six categories of difficult airways and discusses the mitigation risks. He evaluates the differences and similarities between paediatric airways and adults airways.


Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify six categories of difficult airways: (i) Functional difficult airway, (ii) Neonatal difficult airway, (iii) Pathophysiological difficult airways, (iv) Situational difficult airway, (v) Anatomical difficult airway - acquired pathology and, (vi) Anatomical difficult airway - congenital pathology
  2. Manage the difficulties related to ventilation/oxygenation and the pathologies associated with it
  3. Evaluate risk mitigation:(i) multiple level of airway obstruction, (ii) multiple different types of difficult airway, and (iii) potential for difficult ventilation/oxygenation
  4. Recognise the differences and similarities between paediatric difficult airways and adults airways.
