Finding accredited CPD
This interactive module describes identification of common corticosteroid dermatoses, general skin advice and effective use of topical corticosteroids (TCS). Steroid phobia- a reluctance to use effective regimes of TCS due to an unfounded belief in frequency of side effects- is well recognised amongst patients, parents and healthcare professionals including GPs.
Combating this reluctance requires GPs to have a sound knowledge of relative TCS potencies, factors that affect absorption, optimal vehicle for the TCS, appropriate dosage using fingertip units and effective duration of use. Using case studies, diagrams and photos, the GP will work through the above and by the end feel confident that they can diagnose corticosteroid dermatoses, prescribe appropriately and educate patients and parents on effective use of TCS.
