Sex and anaesthetic awareness - Dr Hannah Braithwaite

Description

In this seminar, Dr Hannah Braithwaite presents her research examining whether biological sex difference is appropriately accounted for in anaesthetic dosing , and how this consideration - or lack thereof - impacts clinical practice and patient outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Appraise the current literature on the impact of biological sex on anaesthetic pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, and it implications for clinical practice
  2. Evaluate the research investigating awareness under general anaesthesia, depth of anaesthesia emergence time and dosing strategies, with a focus on sex-based differences in anaesthetic response between female and male patients
  3. Assess the limitations of the research on sex-based differences in anaesthetic care
  4. Weigh the implications for reappraising clinical practice, including whether current dosing strategies for females and males reflect best practice.
