The course is divided into three comprehensive units, each focusing on different aspects of acne and rosacea management.
Unit 1: Acne and Rosacea Theory
This unit introduces the pathogenesis, subtypes, and grading systems for acne and rosacea. Participants will learn how to take a thorough patient history and examination, identifying when to investigate further and tailoring treatments accordingly. The unit emphasizes the importance of understanding acne as a chronic disease and addresses the psychological impact on patients, stressing the need for early intervention to prevent scarring and long-term damage.
Unit 2: Acne Management
This unit focuses on the various treatment options for acne, ranging from topical agents like benzoyl peroxide and retinoids to systemic treatments such as antibiotics and isotretinoin. The importance of addressing hormonal influences, diet, and lifestyle factors is emphasised, along with the role of physical treatments like micro-needling, chemical peels, and laser therapy. Participants will gain insights into managing acne in both adolescents and post-adolescent adults, with a focus on preventing scarring and improving patient outcomes.
Unit 3: Rosacea Management The final unit delves into the diagnosis and treatment of rosacea, a chronic skin condition. It covers triggers, including dietary and environmental factors, and presents a range of treatments, from topical agents like ivermectin and brimonidine to light-based therapies and laser treatments for persistent redness and telangiectasia. The unit emphasises the need for patient education, as rosacea is a lifelong condition requiring long-term management to achieve remission and control.
