Medicinal Cannabis - Women's health and endometriosis, PMT and osteoporosis

Description

This course consists of five comprehensive units that delve into medicinal cannabis’s potential role in managing specific women’s health conditions:

Unit 1: The Endocannabinoid System and Women's Health
This unit provides an overview of the endocannabinoid system and its role in women’s reproductive health. Participants will learn about the presence of cannabinoid receptors in the female reproductive system and how the system interacts with sex hormones. The potential influence of cannabinoids on conditions such as miscarriage, endometriosis, and pre-eclampsia is discussed, highlighting the system’s importance in maintaining reproductive health.

Unit 2: Endometriosis
Endometriosis is one of the most common causes of chronic pelvic pain in women. This unit covers the debilitating symptoms of endometriosis and explores how medicinal cannabis may offer an alternative approach to pain management. By modulating inflammation and interacting with cannabinoid receptors, cannabis may help manage the progression and symptoms of endometriosis. Participants will review research on cannabinoid receptor agonists and their potential impact on pain relief.

Unit 3: Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)
This unit addresses the physical and emotional symptoms of PMS and its more severe counterpart, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Participants will explore how cannabinoids may help alleviate PMS-related pain, anxiety, and mood changes. While conventional treatments often cause side effects, medicinal cannabis may offer a complementary approach to managing these symptoms by modulating neurotransmitter levels and reducing inflammation.

Unit 4: Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a silent disease that significantly affects bone health, especially in postmenopausal women. This unit explores the potential role of cannabinoids in bone healing and regeneration. Participants will learn about how the endocannabinoid system interacts with bone cells and how CBD, in particular, may enhance bone density and support fracture healing.

Unit 5: Choosing Cannabis Products for Women’s Health
The final unit provides practical guidance on choosing medicinal cannabis products for treating endometriosis, PMS, and osteoporosis. Participants will learn about dosage recommendations, product types (THC, CBD, or combinations), and patient considerations such as age, comorbidities, and personal experience with cannabis. The unit emphasizes the importance of starting with low doses and gradually increasing as needed to minimize side effects.

This course, presented by Dr. Orit Holtzman, offers healthcare professionals valuable insights into using medicinal cannabis as a potential second-line treatment for women’s health conditions.
