This course is structured into eight detailed units, each addressing specific aspects of elbow, wrist, and hand problems:
Unit 1: Anatomy of the Elbow, Wrist, and Hand
Gain a detailed understanding of the anatomy and biomechanics of the elbow, wrist, and hand. Learn how structures like tendons, nerves, and bones contribute to function and how injuries impact these regions
Unit 2: Lateral Elbow Issues – Tennis Elbow and Osteochondritis Dissecans
Explore the causes, clinical presentation, and management of lateral epicondylalgia (tennis elbow) and osteochondritis dissecans. This unit emphasises the importance of early diagnosis, conservative treatments like PEACE and LOVE protocols, and indications for surgical intervention.
Unit 3: Medial Elbow Issues – Golfer's Elbow and Ulnar Collateral Ligament Injury
Understand medial elbow conditions, including epicondylitis (golfer's elbow) and ligamentous injuries. Learn to identify symptoms, employ diagnostic techniques, and apply treatment options, from rehabilitation to surgical repair.
Unit 4: Posterior and Anterior Elbow Conditions
This unit covers posterior elbow bursitis, "thrower's elbow," and anterior conditions like biceps tendon injuries. Topics include differentiating septic from aseptic bursitis, performing diagnostic imaging, and implementing tailored management strategies.
Unit 5: Osteoarthritis and Fractures of the Elbow
Review the pathology, clinical signs, and therapeutic approaches for elbow osteoarthritis and fractures. Understand when to apply conservative measures, such as physical therapy, versus surgical options like arthroscopy or joint replacement.
Unit 6: Common Wrist Problems
Delve into wrist conditions, including carpal tunnel syndrome, ganglion cysts, triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) injuries, and osteoarthritis. Learn how to assess, manage, and prevent these conditions through evidence-based practices.
Unit 7: Wrist and Hand Injuries
Focus on Colles fractures, Dupuytren's contracture, De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, trigger finger, and gamekeeper's thumb. This unit includes diagnostic techniques, treatment pathways, and rehabilitation plans for restoring functionality.
Unit 8: Hand Fractures, Nerve, and Tendon Injuries
Conclude with an exploration of fractures (e.g., scaphoid and boxer's fractures), nerve injuries, and flexor/extensor tendon injuries. Topics include surgical and non-surgical repair methods, post-injury rehabilitation, and long-term management to prevent complications.
Through engaging case studies, diagnostic guides, and practical management strategies, this course equips participants to confidently address elbow, wrist, and hand conditions in clinical practice.
