This course is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and practical skills required to manage infected lesions, particularly chronic ulcers and venous-related infections. Divided into four key units, the course covers diagnostic techniques, treatment methods, and case-based learning.
Unit 1: Venous Ulcers – Identification and Treatment
This unit focuses on the identification and management of venous ulcers. Participants will learn about the common causes of venous ulcers, the importance of compression therapy, and proper dressing techniques. The unit also provides guidelines on how to differentiate venous ulcers from arterial ulcers and the role of infection control in managing these lesions.
Unit 2: Venous Ulcers – Biopsy, Healing, Grafting
Building on the first unit, this section emphasizes the importance of biopsies for non-healing ulcers, particularly in ruling out malignancies such as squamous cell carcinoma. Participants will learn about advanced treatment options, including skin grafting and the use of suction dressings to promote healing.
Unit 3: Pyoderma, Neurovascular Ulcers, Diabetes, Cellulitis, and Lymphoedema
This unit explores the diagnosis and treatment of more complex ulcers, such as pyoderma gangrenosum, neurovascular ulcers related to diabetes, and infections like cellulitis. Special attention is given to diabetic foot care, infection management, and the role of Doppler ultrasound in assessing arterial disease.
Unit 4: Varicose Vein Treatments
The final unit covers the management of varicose veins, including minimally invasive procedures like sclerotherapy and laser ablation. Participants will learn when to refer patients for surgical interventions and how to manage common complications related to varicose vein treatments.
This course is ideal for practitioners looking to enhance their skills in diagnosing and managing a variety of infected lesions, improving patient care through practical, evidence-based approaches.
