Finding accredited CPD
In this session, Dr Angela Titmuss outlines the high prevalence of youth-onset type 2 diabetes among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth in Northern Australia, emphasising that youth-onset type 2 diabetes is not unique to Australia, as it is rising globally and presenting significant challenges. It is characterised by distinct pathophysiology, more aggressive progression, earlier onset of complications, poorer treatment response, and variable phenotypes compared with adult-onset type 2 diabetes. A growing understanding of the equity issues and early life exposures that led to intergenerational transmission prompted recognition that these young people require innovative and improved models of care.
