Finding accredited CPD
Pre-emptive cannula cricothyroidotomy for percutaneous oxygenation is a well-established technique that enhances patient safety and team performance in difficult airway management. Given the need for specialised equipment and considerable expertise, however, its use has largely been confined to expert teams. In this session, Dr Sivan Wexler aims to reintroduce this valuable concept for generalist anaesthetists, employing equipment and techniques that are simple, familiar and safe. By reducing the barriers to implementation, pre-emptive cannula cricothyroidotomy can become a practical addition to the anaesthetist's armamentarium, even for those who rarely encounter complex airways.
