Core Module - Assessment of permanent impairment in the NSW Motor accidents scheme (self-paced)

Description

This training module introduces Part 6 of the SIRA Motor Accident Guidelines: Permanent Impairment and how they will be used along with the American Medical Association Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment 4th edition (AMA4) when assessing impairment in the New South Wales Motor Accident scheme. It also provides context regarding the legislation, entitlements for injured road users and requirements for practitioners prior to assessing permanent impairment.

Please note:

You need a copy of the American Medical Association’s Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, 4th Edition (AMA4), as it will not be provided. For participants undertaking the Core and Mental & Behavioural Disorders module, you do not need to buy any AMA Guides.

Please be reminded that the completion of this module, or any other module part of the NSW impairment assessment training program, does not automatically guarantee the possibility to perform permanent impairment assessment.

The Core Module does not have a competency-based assessment. Participants are deemed competent by completing the training activities.


Learning Outcomes

  1. Explain the key principles of assessing permanent impairment as stated in the Guidelines
  2. Apply a systematic approach to assess permanent impairment using the methods outlined in the Guidelines
  3. Describe the role and expectations of an assessor and conduct an accurate assessment of an injured person based on the Guidelines and the individual's presentation
  4. Demonstrate consistency in applying a systematic approach to assessments in multiple scenarios
  5. Produce comprehensive reports that clearly reference the appropriate methods, charts, tables, figures, percentages, and calculations used in their assessments
  6. Produce objective and fair reports and demonstrate timeliness in their provision.
