National Obesity Management Drive

Description

Developed by an expert, multidisciplinary faculty, this initial webinar in a multipart series outlines the program framework, staged learning pathway and how participants can efficiently complete up to 50 CPD hours across 2026.

Obesity is one of Australia’s most prevalent and least systematically managed chronic conditions, particularly in patients with cardiometabolic comorbidities. This CPD-accredited webinar brings together leading endocrinology, primary care and allied health experts to provide contemporary definitions, guideline-aligned management approaches and practical strategies for embedding obesity care into routine clinical practice.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Recognise Patients at Risk of Obesity-Related Harm - Identify patients in primary care with obesity and associated cardiometabolic risk factors, including type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease
  2. Apply Contemporary Definitions and Diagnostic Criteria - Understand and implement contemporary, guideline-aligned definitions of clinical obesity, including appropriate use of BMI, waist circumference and risk stratification tools
  3. Optimise Obesity Management in Primary Care - Apply evidence-based obesity management strategies, including lifestyle interventions, allied health referral, pharmacological options and appropriate escalation of care
  4. Interpret and Utilise Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Data - Extract and review EMR data to identify patients with obesity who are under-recognised, under-documented or not engaged in structured management pathways
  5. Conduct Structured Self-Reflection - Assess current obesity-related practice patterns, identify gaps between current and best practice, and determine practical steps to improve care delivery
  6. Implement Practice Change Through Patient Audits -  Conduct a proactive review of a defined cohort of patients identified through baseline audit and implement structured obesity management actions, such as formal diagnosis, documentation, care planning or follow-up.
