Assessment and management of bowel dysfunction is the second of seven electives in the Paediatric Continence course. This module will cover:

• history taking
• examination, bowel diary and tests
• treatment options

NOTE: You must complete the core unit, Introduction to Paediatric Continence before undertaking any of the electives. You will be able to enrol in this module, however will not be granted access until the core module is completed.

1. Define faecal incontinence and constipation 
2. Outline what is involved in assessment of bowel dysfunction 
3. Outline what history is required 
4. Describe the secondary consequences of constipation 
5. Describe what’s involved in a complete physical examination when assessing bowel dysfunction 
6. Explain the use of a bowel diary as part of assessment of bowel dysfunction 
7. Outline the different treatment options available for bowel dysfunction.
