Applied Resilience Science

Description

Healthcare professionals work in environments where sustained performance, sound judgement, effective teamwork, and personal wellbeing all play a critical role in delivering quality care. Developing resilience is not about simply coping with pressure. It is about building the capabilities that allow people to adapt, recover, learn, and continue performing at their best over time.

Resilience is one of the most studied topics in human performance psychology and one of the most misunderstood. This fully evidence-based program dismantles common myths, builds a shared understanding of what resilience actually is, and equips participants with practical tools they can apply immediately. Grounded in neuroscience and performance psychology rather than simply "being positive", the course progresses through nine sections covering the science and key characteristics of resilience, your inner world including self-awareness, emotional intelligence, growth mindset, optimism, and coping strategies, analytical case studies of figures such as Frankl, Malala, Oprah, Mandela, and Ardern, and resilience across individuals, teams, organisations, leadership, and the whole person before concluding with recognised assessment tools, long-term strategies, and your own personal resilience plan.

Every concept is paired with a practical tool, exercise, or habit, with each section concluding with an activity to reinforce learning. Co-authored and presented by Daniela Kraus, this program draws on Dr. Mike Conway's extensive understanding of high performance and the healthcare sector, participants will gain practical insights into how developing resilience can strengthen professional effectiveness, collaboration, adaptability, and long-term wellbeing in healthcare and other demanding professions.

Details

This is a self-paced online program of approximately four hours delivered in bite sized pieces. To gain the greatest benefit, we recommend allowing around three hours so you can pause, reflect, review, and make notes. The program can be completed in shorter sessions rather than in a single sitting.

The content is delivered across nine sections, each concluding with an experiential exercise designed to reinforce learning. The program is fully evidence-based, and every tool is intended for immediate practical application. It also incorporates recognised resilience measurement and assessment tools (IMI / MindZen). Completion involves working through each section and its activities, completing an interactive quiz, and developing a personal resilience plan to finalise your learning. No prior knowledge or prerequisites are required. The course is suitable for healthcare professionals and anyone working in high responsibility environments who wants practical, science-based strategies to strengthen personal resilience, support effective teamwork, and contribute to resilient organisations.
