Led by allergy, immunology and primary-care experts, review current challenges in recognising and treating anaphylaxis, including needle anxiety, hesitation, access and confidence among patients, families and carers. Participants will explore the evidence, safety considerations and practical limitations associated with intranasal adrenaline and consider how it may fit alongside established adrenaline autoinjectors.

Through expert presentations, real-world cases, audience polling and facilitated discussion, participants will consider patient selection, device choice, shared decision-making, prescribing and counselling. The course will also address emergency action plans, training and preparedness across schools, childcare, camps, travel and other community settings.

Learning Outcomes

1. Recognise anaphylaxis promptly and explain the importance of timely adrenaline administration
2. Identify practical and behavioural barriers that may delay adrenaline use, including needle anxiety, uncertainty, access and responder confidence
3. Describe the evidence, pharmacological considerations, safety profile and practical limitations associated with intranasal adrenaline
4. Compare intranasal adrenaline with established injectable devices and identify factors relevant to selecting an appropriate option for an individual patient
5. Apply patient preference, clinical circumstances and shared decision-making when prescribing or reviewing an adrenaline device
6. Counsel patients, parents and carers on recognising anaphylaxis, administering the prescribed device and responding confidently during an emergency
7.  Review existing anaphylaxis management arrangements and identify opportunities to strengthen access, training, carriage, follow-up and multidisciplinary care.
