From Acne Inversa to Common Menopausal Problems: Women's Health Issues

Description

This course focuses on three key areas of women’s health:

Unit 1: Cognitive and Sleep Issues in Perimenopause and MenopauseIn this unit, participants will explore the cognitive decline and sleep disturbances commonly experienced during perimenopause and menopause. The unit covers major studies like the SWAN study, which demonstrates the impact of hormone fluctuations on cognition and sleep quality. Topics include memory decline, sleep disorders such as insomnia, and the role of hormones like estrogen and progesterone in these issues. Assessment strategies and management approaches, including hormone replacement therapy, are discussed.

Unit 2: Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections in Postmenopausal WomenThis unit delves into the increased prevalence of urinary tract infections (UTIs) in postmenopausal women, linked to Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM). It covers the causes, risk factors, and symptoms of recurrent UTIs, along with the best practices for diagnosis and treatment. Topics include the role of asymptomatic bacteriuria, antibiotic resistance, and the potential benefits of treatments like vaginal estrogen. Participants will learn how to manage and prevent UTIs, especially in older women, while considering emerging guidelines on non-antibiotic treatments.

Unit 3: Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS)This final unit addresses hidradenitis suppurativa, a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that can cause significant pain and disfigurement. Participants will learn about the causes, diagnosis, and stages of HS, as well as the various treatment options available, from medical therapies to surgical interventions. Special attention is given to patient education, lifestyle factors like smoking cessation, and weight management, which are crucial for improving outcomes in HS patients.
