This two-day conference is highly relevant to general practitioners, addressing the management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), chronic pelvic pain (CPP), and urinary disorders - conditions commonly seen in primary care. With a growing patient demand for integrative approaches, GPs will learn about the evidence base and practical application of acupuncture as an adjunctive treatment. The program supports GPs in delivering patient-centred, multimodal care aligned with RACGP curriculum priorities in gastrointestinal, urological, and women's health.
Learning Outcomes
- Critically appraise recent evidence on the effectiveness of acupuncture in managing gastrointestinal, pelvic, and urinary disorders in general practice
- Explain the assessment and conventional management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), chronic pelvic pain, and urinary disorders, including overactive bladder and chronic cystitis
- Describe how acupuncture principles and protocols may be integrated as adjunctive treatments for gastrointestinal, pelvic and urinary conditions in general practice
- Compare and contrast acupuncture modalities, including body acupuncture, ear acupuncture, scalp acupuncture, and photo-biomodulation, in the treatment of IBS, IBD, pelvic pain, and urinary disorders
- Evaluate how Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles and Tai Chi practice can inform acupuncture treatment planning in person-centred general practice
- Develop clinical practice guidelines for integrating acupuncture into general practice through peer discussion and case-based review.
