Get ahead of the winter rush. Each year, the respiratory season brings a predictable surge in GP presentations — from common winter viruses through to acute exacerbations of COPD and asthma. This free, fully online CPD program is designed to equip GPs with the practical tools and confidence to manage the season ahead.
Presented by Dr Charith Horadagoda, Respiratory Physician at Westmead and Liverpool Hospitals, and hosted by GP Dr Sarah Chu, the session covers winter virus management, up-to-date vaccination strategies for at-risk patients, and evidence-based care for COPD and asthma — including a focused discussion on triple therapy for appropriate patient cohorts in both disease groups. With a GP at the helm, expect a discussion that speaks directly to the realities of general practice.
Learning Outcomes
- Differentiate between common winter respiratory viruses and describe current evidence-based management and vaccination recommendations for at-risk patient cohorts
- Apply current Australian guidelines to the assessment and management of acute exacerbations of COPD and asthma during the winter season
- Identify appropriate patient cohorts for escalation to triple therapy in both COPD and asthma, and describe the clinical rationale for each
- Implement proactive winter management strategies for patients with chronic respiratory disease to reduce exacerbation risk ahead of the winter season.
