Managing CKD alongside other chronic conditions

Description

CKD rarely occurs in isolation. In a primary care setting, it is very likely that individuals will have a CKD diagnosis that sits alongside diabetes and CVD. These three chronic conditions share many treatment goals and management strategies. Applying a ‘whole of person’ approach to a real (de-identified) case study of a Torres Strait Islander man, our presenters Dr Tahira Scott (Nephrologist, Cape York Kidney Care) and Dr Andrea Miller (General Practitioner, Cape York Kidney Care), will journey through Chapter 3 of the Chronic Kidney Disease Management in Primary Care 5th handbook, Managing CKD alongside other chronic conditions.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Explain how chronic kidney disease, diabetes and cardiovascular disease are interrelated
  2. Outline the health burden of the conditions and their impact on wellbeing, particularly in First Nations peoples
  3. Identify medications and treatments that can slow progression of chronic kidney disease alongside diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
