Mastering Uncontrolled Asthma: From Hidden Risk to Targeted Care

Description

Despite effective treatment options, patients with uncontrolled or severe asthma experiencing repeated exacerbations, oral corticosteroid (OCS) exposure or persistent symptoms may remain unidentified or inadequately controlled in routine primary care.

Join leading respiratory and primary care faculty for the national launch of Mastering Uncontrolled Asthma - a practical, outcomes-focused program designed to help clinicians proactively identify patients with uncontrolled asthma, optimise their management and recognise when specialist assessment is warranted.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Recognise markers of uncontrolled or severe asthma in primary care, including repeated oral corticosteroid use, exacerbations, hospital/ED presentations and persistent symptoms despite higher-intensity inhaled therapy
  2. Apply systematic EMR searches to identify and prioritise patients at increased risk of uncontrolled asthma for structured clinical review
  3. Assess patients with uncontrolled asthma and optimise management, including asthma control, exacerbation history, adherence, inhaler technique, comorbidities and current pharmacotherapy
  4. Identify when primary care management should be escalated and apply appropriate criteria for referral for specialist assessment and consideration of advanced therapies
  5. Integrate proactive patient identification, recall and review processes into routine general practice workflows to support sustained improvements in asthma care.
