New developments in diabetes management - Professor David Story

In this seminar, Professor David Story talks about the new diabetes medications causing increased challenges to care for patients with diabetes and presenting important uncertainties to practitioners.


Learning Outcomes

  1. Recognise the challenges, risks and benefits that the new diabetes drugs present to practitioners and patients. These drugs are: 
    • Glucagon-Like Peptide 1 Receptor Agonists (GLP-1 agonists) - semaglutide (Ozempic) 
    • Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter Type 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) - also known as gliflozins
  2.  Appreciate the other applications to non-DM patients
  3.  Understand the challenges these drugs provide in non-elective surgery as evidence is still limited.
