Asthma remains a complex and highly prevalent chronic disease affecting approximately 11% of the population. Rapid assessment and appropriate management remain the cornerstone of excellent patient outcomes. The introduction or cessation of a wide variety of medications can be confusing and lead to poorer patient outcomes. Join the CPD event to review current clinical treatment guidelines, clinical pearls for assessment, and gold-standard practice tips on managing these complex patients. This module includes 10 hours measuring outcomes for the CPD cycle.

Learning Outcomes

1. Review current asthma literature and clinical guidelines relevant to Australian General Practitioners applicable to adults and adolescents with asthma
2. Assess patients with asthma in the community for clinical warning signs of deterioration, including markers of poor control and exacerbation risk, and initiate appropriate escalation of management to reduce morbidity and prevent acute presentations
3. Apply best-practice strategies to assess inhaler technique, reinforce correct use of bronchodilators, and address adherence barriers to improve symptom control and clinical outcomes in patients with asthma.
