The resurgence in invasive pneumococcal disease is driving rising hospitalisations and preventable morbidity in infants and young children. Despite improved vaccine access and higher-valent options, many children remain under-protected.
Led by an expert faculty, this CPD-accredited session will clarify current vaccine recommendations, identify who remains at risk, and provide simple, repeatable strategies to support earlier protection. With a strong focus on real-world application, the session will utilise practical strategies, engaging presentations and interactive Q&A to support clinicians to translate vaccine availability into consistent delivery in practice, reducing missed opportunities and improving timely protection.
Learning Outcomes
- Quantify how many children remain at preventable risk of pneumococcal disease by understanding current incidence trends, coverage gaps, and the consequences of delayed or missed vaccination
- Recognise the clinical indicators and at-risk groups that heighten vulnerability to severe pneumococcal disease among infants and young children
- Apply current paediatric pneumococcal vaccination recommendations with confidence, including NIP updates, higher-valent vaccine options, and pathways for protecting medically at-risk children
- Communicate pneumococcal risk effectively to parents and caregivers, using clear, practical, and evidence-aligned messaging that supports timely vaccination decisions
- Implement simple, scalable workflow strategies that enable consistent identification, recall, and opportunistic vaccination of eligible children within everyday practice.
