Self-collect HPV Test Clinical Audit

Description

The known role of HPV in the development of cervical cancer provides opportunity to implement primary (vaccination) and secondary (surveillance) strategies for its prevention. In July 2022, the eligibility for screening on a self-collected sample was expanded to include all people eligible for cervical screening. Since the wider access to self-collected vaginal swabs was introduced, RACGP’s NewsGP reports a doubling each quarter from 28 per 100,000 population in Q3 2022 to 114 per 100,000 population. This activity is intended to assist the participating GP with timely management of their patients who have a self-collected HPV DNA test that detects an oncogenic HPV type or an unsatisfactory result.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate the ability to discriminate patients exhibiting HPV (16/18) detection and critically analyse their medical records to ascertain their referral to and participation in colposcopy, encompassing the collection of LBC samples.
  2. Identify patients whose HPV DNA test result were unsatisfactory. Determine the presence of evidence indicating the collection of a follow-up sample for HPV DNA testing within six weeks of the original sample collection
  3. Accurately identify patients with non-16/18 HPV and review their medical records to ensure they've been recalled for a clinician-collected LBC test
  4. Analyse communication procedures for optimizing follow-up compliance and identify enhancements.
