Unit 1: Debunking Myths and Fads in Sports Nutrition                                                                                              This unit addresses popular dietary trends such as the paleo diet, keto diet, intermittent fasting, and I Quit Sugar. Participants will gain insights into the scientific evidence behind these fads, their potential benefits, and their shortcomings. The session emphasises practical approaches for discussing these diets with athletes and patients, ensuring that nutritional strategies align with individual goals and health needs. Special attention is given to navigating dietary myths surrounding superfoods, organic diets, and gluten-free products, helping participants identify credible information and guide informed decision-making.

Unit 2: Practical Applications for High-Performance Nutrition
Building on foundational knowledge, this unit focuses on real-world applications for optimising athletic performance. Topics include:

Energy Balance and Nutritional Timing: Guidance on carbohydrate and protein intake to fuel training, promote recovery, and maintain immune function.Managing Deficiencies: Strategies for addressing iron deficiency, low energy availability, and relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S).
Supplementation: An exploration of safe, effective supplements and sports-specific foods, with cautionary advice on unverified products.

Case Studies: Practical examples, such as a triathlete’s nutritional plan, demonstrate how to tailor dietary strategies for different sports and individual needs.Participants will also learn about sustainable and ethical dietary practices that promote long-term health and environmental responsibility.

This course equips healthcare professionals and coaches with the skills and knowledge to provide informed nutritional guidance, enhancing athletic performance while safeguarding health and well-being.
