The practical use of soothing language - "what you hear goes straight into your imagination" - Dr Guy Buchanan

Description

In this seminar, Dr Buchanan provides practical examples and guidance in the use of soothing language to aid calm treatment when providing care for patients with persisting pain as either a co-morbidity or as the primary presenting issue. The desired outcomes include less stress for both patient and practitioner.

  1. Appreciate the etymology of the word pain and the evolution its concept over time
  2. Master the use of soothing language when providing care for patients with persisting pain
  3. Empathise with the patient's perception of pain to achieve a better care management outcome
  4. Embrace the LAURS (Listening, Acceptance, Utilisation, Reframing, Suggestion) of communication.
