The "Women's Health - Sexual Health" course is structured into four comprehensive units, each building a deeper understanding of women’s sexual health and its management.
Unit 1: The Physiology of Sex
This unit lays the foundation by exploring the physiology of sexual function, including arousal, libido, and orgasm. It delves into common disruptions caused by biological factors like hormonal changes, psychological stressors, or past trauma. Participants learn how these issues manifest and impact overall well-being, preparing them for sensitive discussions with patients.
Unit 2: Approaches to Addressing Sexual Health
Using practical models like PLISSIT and PEPSI, this unit equips practitioners with a structured approach to discussing sexual health with patients. It covers the importance of obtaining a thorough sexual history, distinguishing between different types of sexual dysfunction, and creating a supportive environment for patients to share concerns comfortably.
Unit 3: Education and Practical Suggestions
Focused on empowering patients, this unit provides strategies for managing common sexual health concerns such as difficulty achieving orgasm, reduced libido, and dyspareunia. Through education and practical solutions like behavioural techniques, communication improvement, and appropriate use of aids or therapies, participants learn to enhance their patients' sexual satisfaction and relationships.
Unit 4: Menopause and the Effect of Hormones
The final unit addresses the impact of menopause on sexual health, including hormonal changes, vaginal atrophy, and reduced libido. Participants explore treatment options such as hormone replacement therapy and vaginal lubricants, as well as non-hormonal strategies to support sexual function and alleviate discomfort during menopause.
By completing this course, participants will gain the skills and confidence to address a wide range of sexual health concerns in women, fostering improved patient outcomes and satisfaction.
