Description

This educational activity is highly relevant to general practice, supporting GPs in the assessment, diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease within the primary care setting. The program focuses on the practical application of evidence-based guidelines and the effective use of pathology testing, including lipid profiling, genetic testing and cardiac biomarkers, to inform clinical decision-making. This educational activity is highly relevant to general practice, supporting GPs in the assessment, diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease within the primary care setting. The program focuses on the practical application of evidence-based guidelines and the effective use of pathology testing, including lipid profiling, genetic testing and cardiac biomarkers, to inform clinical decision-making. Through case-based learning and specialist-led presentations, participants will strengthen diagnostic reasoning, improve risk stratification, and enhance patient management, ultimately contributing to improved patient outcomes.


Learning Outcomes

  1. Assess cardiovascular risk in general practice using contemporary approaches and validated risk stratification tools to guide prevention and management of coronary heart disease
  2. Interpret cardiovascular pathology investigations, including lipid profiles, Lipoprotein (a), and BNP/NT-proBNP, to support early detection, diagnosis, and ongoing management
  3. Identify appropriate indications for specialised and genetic testing, including Lipoprotein (a) and familial hypercholesterolaemia testing, and apply results to inform risk assessment, diagnosis, and family screening
  4. Diagnose and manage cardiovascular conditions in primary care, including cardiac failure, using clinical features, pathology findings, and evidence-based management strategies.
