Rheumatic heart disease is almost unique to the Indigenous and Torres Strait Island population and is driven by social determinants of health such as poverty, overcrowding, poor hygiene conditions.

Professor Jonathan Carapetis, AM, is Director of Telethon Kids Institute and co-Chair of the END-RHD Coalition. He talks about a blueprint to eradicate rheumatic heart disease in Australia with MJA news and online editor, Cate Swannell.
