Headache Masterclass Part 1: Assessing headache and migraine

This educational video is the first in a four-part Headache Masterclass brought to you by Australia and New Zealand Headache Society (ANZHS).

This session utilizes a case of a migraineur presenting to a general practitioner for refinement of migraine management as a basis to explore the themes of taking a targeted and rational history from a headache-suffering patient, making the diagnosis of migraine recognising and managing migraine triggers.

Neurologists Professor Richard Stark and Dr Christina Sun-Edelstein and GP Dr Anita Munõz then explore these learnings via a panel discussion facilitated by A/Professor Lauren Sanders.

  1. Describe an approach to history taking from a patient with migraine, including recognition of red flag symptoms and headache patterns
  2. List the diagnostic criteria for the diagnosis of migraine and common migraine differential diagnoses
  3. Summarise common and recognised migraine triggers and strategies for their mitigation.
