Herpes Zoster in At-Risk Adults

Description

Herpes Zoster is more than just a painful rash — for older and immunocompromised patients, it can lead to serious and long-lasting complications. With an ageing population and increasing numbers of at-risk adults, it’s essential that both GPs and Specialists stay up to date on prevention and management.

That’s why Healthscope, in collaboration with Infectious Disease specialist Dr Clinton Colaco, have developed a 3-hour CPD education activity focused on Herpes Zoster in At-Risk Patients. This course explores the incidence, pathogenesis, and prevention of herpes zoster, with a strong emphasis on recognising vulnerable patient groups and discussing vaccination as a key prevention strategy.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Review the incidence and prevalence of herpes zoster in the Australian community
  2. Review the pathogenesis of Herpes zoster affecting patients
  3. Identify patients at risk and the subsequent sequelae associated with patients who have co-morbidities or are elderly
  4. Discuss safety and efficacy data for Herpes Zoster immunisation therapy.
