Neuroscience of Leadership

Description

This program bridges neuroscience research with practical leadership application, making complex brain science accessible without requiring any prior biology knowledge. Every concept is translated into practical leadership language that can be applied immediately in professional settings.

For medical and healthcare professionals, effective leadership influences far more than management responsibilities. It shapes communication, collaboration, decision making, team performance and the ability to respond effectively in demanding environments. Drawing on Dr. Mike Conway's extensive experience working alongside healthcare organisations, this program provides a practical understanding of why people think, behave and respond the way they do, and how applying neuroscience can improve leadership effectiveness across clinical and non-clinical roles.

Throughout the program, you will explore neuroscience models that strengthen decision making, culture and performance, while developing a personal action plan grounded in how the brain actually works. Learning is reinforced through experiential exercises at the end of each section, designed around the four neural systems required for deep, transferable learning. The science is clear. Passive reading retains around 10% of information after seven days, while active, emotionally engaged practice with spaced follow up retains 70 to 90%. The exercises, including the 7-day challenges, are designed to be completed as practical learning experiences rather than simply read.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Explain how the brain influences leadership effectiveness, using accessible language that requires no prior biology background
  2. Understand, at a neurological level, why common leadership challenges occur such as decisions not going as expected or difficulty motivating a team
  3. Apply neuroscience models to real challenges in decision-making, culture, and performance
  4. Use experiential exercises and the four neural systems of learning to embed new leadership practices
  5. Recognise why active, emotionally engaged, spaced practice dramatically outperforms passive reading for retention
  6. Build a personal action plan, grounded in brain science, to strengthen their leadership.

Details

This self-paced online program takes approximately four hours to complete. It can be completed more quickly if the case studies are omitted and is designed to be undertaken in stages with regular breaks and note taking rather than in one sitting.

The content is delivered across eight modules. Each section concludes with an experiential exercise based on the four neural systems required for deep, transferable learning. For the greatest benefit, participants are encouraged to complete the exercises in sequence, together with the accompanying 7-day challenges.

Completion involves working through all modules and exercises while developing a personal action plan grounded in brain science. A certificate of completion will be issued for successful completion of a 20 question multiple choice quiz.

No prior knowledge is required, and no biology background is assumed, as every concept is translated into practical leadership language. While suitable for leaders and aspiring leaders across all industries, the program offers particular value for medical and healthcare professionals seeking to strengthen leadership capability, communication and team performance in complex and demanding environments.
