In late 2017, public health warnings were issued about a national epidemic of human parechovirus (HPeV) in young children. This article reviews the epidemiology of HPeV in Australia since 2013 and provides guidance to clinicians on the management of suspected infection.

2. List and explain the clinical syndromes and complications of young children presenting with HPeV infections
3. Learn the precautions to be taken when treating a young child presenting with the HPeV symptoms and understand future directions of emerging therapies.
