  1. Summarise the pathophysiology, epidemiology and classifications of stroke, including cryptogenic stroke
  2. Outline current Australian guidelines pertaining to both stroke primary and secondary prevention, and the role of the GP in both
  3. Describe ESUS as a subtype of cryptogenic stroke and its relevance in stroke management in patients in the Australian context
  4. Compare the aetiology and epidemiology of traditional embolic strokes and ESUS
  5. Illustrate the relevance of ESUS to general practitioners’ approaches to and management of stroke patients.
